A novel update

After six months of great ideas, inspiration, lots (lots) of writing and being choked to tears coming home from work on the tube when I decided to kill off one of my characters, I'm FINISHED writing my very first novel. If you'd like to email me a round of applause, feel free. I'm in bits here.

Now, the editing starts and then, gulp, I'll let someone else read it. And then someone else and as long as no one tells me it's pure and utter garbage, it'll go to an agent, who may well tell me it's pure and utter garbage. And then it'll go to another agent.

And so (clears throat and puts on posh voice)... if you, or someone you know, is a literary agent who likes the cut of this blog's gib and thinks you might like to read my novel (which has nowt to do with the blog content but everything to do with its style) you know where I am. Come and get me, I'm cheap.

A tag about my bag

My fellow blogger Kaz has tagged me. It didn't hurt (much) and in answer to her questions, here we go:

5 things in my BAG

Ah, but which bag, eh? Which bag? If we're talking about the bag I take daily to work on the tube then it's as follows.

1. Umbrella (constantly)
2. The Guardian (week daily)
3. Tube pass (always)
4. Packet of boiled sweets (occasionally)
5. Leg of newt and eye of toad (every other Wednesday)

The Harder They Come

To the theatre this week to see the stage version of the cult reggae fillum The Harder They Come. Musical theatre doesn't come much better, it was tremendous. The audience were all up dancing by the end and I walked out when it'd finished, pretending to be Jimmy Cliff.

If you're in London, or even if you're not, get yourself to the Playhouse Theatre now. I can't recommend this enough.

Coronation Street Weekly Update

It's shocking, I know, but I make no apology. I haven't blogged anything here between last week's Coronation Street update and this week's update which has just gone live over here.

This week the update comes with a plumber's quote.

Ladybirds

I've just found out what the collective noun for ladybirds is. Being a huge fan of the little critters* and of collective nouns, I had no choice but to blog it. It's a loveliness of ladybirds. Honestly, it is.

* See here, here and here.

Another good collective noun is a smuck of jellyfish which sounds like a name of an 80s band.

Boris Johnson

When it all goes tits up, don't blame me. I didn't vote for him.
Excellent picture nicked from here.

Blancmange

There's been a rumour that 80s pop and synth band Blancmange will be the support band for the, er, 80s pop and synth band Yazoo when they do their Reunited tour next month. I've had my Yazoo tickets for ages and ages, and yes I'm looking forward to it, ooh, just a bit. Whether Blancmange play or not, it'll be a great night. But anyway, I digress.

What I'm trying to say is that with Blancmange's Living on the Ceiling being used in a telly ad at the minute, it can't be long before the CD's reissued and their own jellied-up blancmange tour happens, can it?

Haven't a clue who Blancmange are? Then click here, my friend.

Party time

This Bank Holiday Weekend I'll be in my best bib and tucker for a very special 80th birthday party (not mine). It's a sit down 3 course meal, with a band in a posh hotel, in the posh part of Yorkshire and I'm on the top table, yikes. It's such a special event that I'm even having a manicure for the do, and I never have a manicure.

I have received etiquette instructions from one of my fab sisters-in-law who advises by txt msg: remember 2 use yr nife n fork + don't burp @ the table.

I can only do me best.
